Halloween Treats this Half Term!

Suitable for children aged 5-11 years, Holiday Club is an activity day full of fun. It includes activities such as trampolining, go-kart racing and even sumo suit fun! Children can also partake in a swimming session every day.

Adventure Club

Adventure Club is a great way for children aged 8-14 years to explore the outdoors at Charlton Lakeside. Activities include climbing, canoeing and archery. But be warned, Adventure Club will only run for a couple of days throughout the half-term!

We’re going green for Macmillan

Go green this week and support Macmillan with their annual ‘Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning’ taking place on Friday 30th September.

To support this, Valley Leisure will be hosting coffee mornings throughout the week at our two main centres – Andover Leisure Centre and Romsey Rapids Sports Complex.

Andover Leisure Centre BAKE OFF! Friday 30th September: The staff at Andover Leisure Centre are baking for Macmillan! Goodies made by the staff will be available throughout the day to buy at the leisure centre.

Active Community Coffee Morning at Romsey Rapids Sports Complex, Wednesday 28th September (10am – 12:30pm): We’ll be creating a selection of ‘Naughty & Nice’ cakes. Will you take our taste test and tell the difference? You can also grab yourself a FREE Health MOT, get useful information about exercise and Macmillan support and join in a taster session. Here’s a breakdown of the morning:

  • 10:35am – 11:15am: Body Balance
  • 11:20am – 11;50am: Zumba Gold
  • 11:55am – 12:25am: Pilates

We know how daunting it can be trying to think of fun and creative ways to get the kids out this summer without breaking the bank, so we’ve created a ‘Best of Valley Leisure’ guide to help you come rain or shine.

Suitable for: 3 months to 5 years

1 – 2 hour stays (children 12 months or under can only stay for a maximum of one hour)

Available at Andover Leisure Centre and Romsey Rapids Sports Complex

 

Holiday Club ☀

Suitable for: 5 – 11 years

Day club from 8:30am – 5:30pm and includes activities such as go-karting, trampolining, climbing wall, inflatables and an every day swim.

Available at Andover Leisure Centre.

*Hot, healthy lunch included.

 

Adventure Club ☀

Suitable for: 8 – 14 years

Adventure day club from 9am – 5pm and includes activities such as orienteering, raft building, climbing, canoeing and even bushcraft.

Available at Charlton Lakeside.

– Don’t worry, if the weather isn’t great then Adventure Club still runs! There may just be a little rejigging of activities.

Suitable for: All the family

If you’re looking for something to do as a family, or just for a spontaneous day out, we also have a great range of pay-as-you-go options. Head down to Charlton Lakeside for activities such as canoeing, kayaking and climbing (weather and day dependant), or if it’s a rainy day then bring the fun inside with Merlin’s Kingdom soft and adventure play at Andover Leisure Centre or swimming at Romsey Rapids Sports Complex.

Just keep swimming – the benefits and challenges

We don’t often think of swimming as an exercise routine, or a valid way to lose weight, but studies and research suggest that swimming can in-fact benefit you more than you think.

If you’re already a keen swimmer, then why not take part in the Swimathon? This is a national campaign which challenges people of all abilities to get involved in the sport, and fundraise for charity.

Charity Events 2016

You hear the term ‘charity event’ and you’re automatically associated with the classic runs, marathons or cycling races. But if you’re looking for something a little different, then look no further – we have searched far and wide to bring you the weirdest, quirkiest and most comfortable ways to get involved, take part and raise money for some great causes.

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning/Night-in

You may have seen the advertisements for Macmillan’s coffee morning campaign, which will be officially taking place on 25th of September. We say ‘officially’, because this is an event that can be held any time throughout the year. You can sign up online, grab some friends and host your own, or alternatively attend a public event near you.macmillanlogo

Alternatively, if you aren’t a morning person, then you could always partake in Macmillan’s Night-In. Grab your girls, some cocktails and the classic chick-flicks and enjoy a night in, whilst doing your part for charity.

Zombie Evacuation

If you’ve already planned what you’ll do in a zombie apocalypse (don’t pretend you haven’t), or are looking for a more unconventional fun run, then why not take part in a Zombie Evacuation Race?zombie-4.jpg

This is a 5k run, and each ‘evacuee’ starts with 3 lifebelts and your aim is to prevent those merciless zombies from hypothetically biting you 3 times. When you reach the safe zone at the end of the course you will be recognised as either a survivor (with at least one life belt) or infected (no lifebelts).

This seems like a pretty crazy and fun way to give to charity, and even better, you can choose from a range of charities. The only downside is there are limited locations.

Fight for Survival

If you think you’re fit enough to be a marine or you just love a challenge, then sign up for The Commando Series obstacle. Based in Kent, this course is an endurance challenge which mirrors exact replicas of the Royal Marine Commando Training CentreCommando-289.jpg including the dreaded Sheep Dip and dark Castle caves. What makes it even more unique, is that you have the opportunity to camp overnight, take a survival training course and learn how to hunt, build shelters and make fires. All proceedings go to the Royal Marine’s Charitable Trust Fund.

Here come the girls! Pretty Muddy is an 5k or 10k obstacle course packed full of fun, laughs and lots of mud. Set up by Cancer Research UK, this type of course is a more fun, light-hearted way to partake in their charity events rather than the classic runs. Cancer Research have added even more locations this year, so you’ll be sure to find an event near you.

Walk it

If high-intense sports aren’t your thing, then why not attend a walk? Walking is a great way to stay active, get outdoors and it will bememorywalk.jpg even more rewarding if you are doing it for a good cause! Many charities hold walking events, from Alzheimer’s Society to British Heart Foundation, our advice would be to research a charity close to your heart and see if they have one of these events on.
