Exercising outside when it’s cold has many benefits.

  • For one, it can help beat the winter blues. Getting outside to exercise will up your number of hours exposed to sunshine, helping you to feel happier through the dark evenings.
  • It’s great to get a breath of fresh air. If you’re stuck in a stuffy office with everybody coughing and spluttering around you, a blast of clean air will help keep the bugs away. Just make sure to wrap up warm to avoid feeling too chilly.
  • You’ll feel a boost of energy. When it starts getting dark in the afternoons, it’s easy to feel sluggish and tired. To help combat this, make sure you get out at lunchtime and get your heart pumping – the invigorating effect will see you through to home time.
  • It will help balance out the comfort eating. Because, let’s face it, it’s going to happen. Exercising in the cold air will help you burn calories as your body works to heat you up, and windy weather can add extra resistance to your workout.

It’s best to get out to exercise during the day in winter, so that you can keep safe and be seen.
If you can only get out during the dark hours, or it’s pouring it down with rain – don’t forget that our nice warm gyms will be open ready to put you through your paces.
